The scheme was developed pursuant to Art. 10 of the Law "On specially protected natural territories" from May 23, 2000 № 396-3 and obligations of the Republic of Belarus in the framework of the environmental conventions. The main provisions, which is the basis for development "Schemes" - a principle shift from extensive build-up areas of SPNT to build a qualitative improvement of their structure, the potential for the formation of protected areas integrated into the European national ecological network. "Scheme" provides up to 2010 to bring the total area of protected areas to 1809.2 thousand hectares (8,7% of the country), and by 2015 the total area of protected areas should make 2110.8 thousand hectares (10.2% of the country). The development also includes a map-scheme on a scale of 1:1,000,000 and a packet of documents containing an annotated list of protected areas of Belarus, scientific, financial and economic justification.
