Recommended application field: The capacitance increases with increasing an effective electrode area and with decreasing a dielectric layer thickness.

Advantages over analogues: Advantages: Very high discharge current values are possible as well as the high charging current; As a result, high specific power can be obtained in pulses of short duration; Practically unlimited number of charge/discharge cycles (up to millions); Wide operating temperature range; Complete discharge is permissible; No maintenance is necessary while in use; Envirinmentally appropriate production and use, readily available desing materials, handling safety.

Various conductive conductive materials, e.g. those based on nanoporous carbon fibre or powder with the effective surface area of ca. 1000sq.m/g are used as the electrodes in SC. Being coupled with the extremely low double layer thickness (ca 1 nm) this results in a superhigh specific capacitance - up to 10 F/cc or even higher.
