METHODOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT FOR WELDING IN THE SOLID PHASE OF INHOMOGENEOUS MATERIALS


Purpose of the development: The proposed metod permits to realize the solid phase joining of any combinations of heterogeneous metals including the welding of such pair of metals that can't be welded by the traditional methods.

Recommended application field: The method is used in different unirs if rocket-air-space, aviation, ship-building and in other branches of mechanical engineering.

Advantages over analogues: Rational choice of intermediate layers guarantees the high strength, toughness, vacuum tightness and corrosion resistance and workability at high temperatures in variable tempetrature and force fields.

Fusion welding of heterogeneous materials such as steel-copper, steel-titanium, steel-zirconium and even steel 3 with stel 45 is impossible. Transient zones of different chemical composition form on the boundaries of joints, brittle intermetallic phases appear. For instance, to weld one tube with another manufactured from heterogeneous materials. This procedure may be realized by the use of transdusers made from composition material and produced of the same materials as tubes that must be welded. A new vacuum rulling mill DUO-175-A is developed in NSC KIPT for welding of heterogeneous materials in the solid phase; the mill is equipped by the system of monitoring the processes in equipment during operation. Strenght and vacuum tightness of layers joining is on the level of the pack components. The raw material for composite production may be the treaditional sorts of metal also as different dispersion materials: metal powders and powder mixtures of metals.
