MAGNETICALLY OPERATED ELECTROSLAG WELDING (MEW) OF TITANIUM ALLOYS

Purpose of the development: Designed for connection of large parts of titanium alpha and alpha plus beta alloy center-type aircraft, traverse chassis, bulkheads shpangauntvs and power vessels, thick-walled parts and assemblies.

Recommended application field: It is used in chemical and general engineering.

Technical characteristic: On the example of the installation the A-535 Diameter of electrode wire, 6.3 mm The maximum cross section of the plate electrode, mm 200x15 Welding speed, m / h 0,4-9 Range of welding current, A 300-6000 Range of welding voltage, V 8-63 The number of degrees of regulation of the secondary voltage 48 Rated voltage three-phase supply voltage, V 380 Power supply, 500 kW (340)

Advantages over analogues: High chemical and physical homogeneity of metal Fine-grained structure of ingots Absence of foreign inclusions and gas pores

The development stage readiness: Introduced in production

Technical and economic effect: Reliability and simplicity of used metallurgical equipment High productivity of the processes, decrease the number of repeated remeltings (in traditional VAR technology 2-3 - stage remelting process is used). No evaporation of alloying elements Feasibility of producing cylindrical ingots, slabs and hollow ingots High quality of ingot surface formation

Description of the development:
()
The electro-slag welding magnetically allows welding titanium and its alloys at a thickness of 30-600 mm welded edges in one pass. With a length of suture 40-2000 mm setting is A-1494, and at greater length - Set A-1170 T. In this way, sealed alpha and alpha plus beta - alloys. The most widely used of them - an alloy 2B, 3B, VT6, VT22, and others in the MES running on welding currents up to 12,000 A and voltage across the electrodes to 36, under conditions of high hydrodynamic activity of the slag and metal baths. Connection details MEA method provides higher levels of cyclic endurance and performance of products than the use of other types of fusion welding. This is achieved through: - High degree of purification of the weld metal of contaminants; - Complete removal of the weld metal gas pores; - Refinement of the crystal structure of the weld metal; - Hydrodynamic seal the borders of the crystallites - high structural homogeneity of the metal. As an example, MEA large carriages traverse the wing and landing gear of IL-76-type alloy VT22. The thickness of the workpiece in this case amounted to 30 and 350 mm.
