Purpose of the development: Hardening and modification of construction materials and products.

Recommended application field: Mechanical engineering

Advantages over analogues: - Microhardness increased to four times, even for pre-hardened structural steels; - Wear resistance increases 4-10 times depending on the steel grade and mode of treatment; - Corrosion and erosion characteristics are improved (including when cavitation tests in water); - A combination of ultra-fast hardening and alloying; - Ecological safety; - High efficiency of the plasma source (~ 50%); - Simplicity of the equipment; - The ability to process large surfaces; - No special pre-treatment; - Low power consumption (up to 1 kW) (mainly pumping system); - The possibility of modification and mixing the precoated. One major preiuschestv method described material processing, compared with tradition with (e.g., nitride), can control the magnitude and quality of the nitrided layer, its structure (for environmentally friendly conditions), as well as significant reduction in applied power.

The method is based on the modification of ultrafast (10-6 s) the energy impact on the superficial layers of materials (20-100 mm) using a pulsed plasma flows, the effective diffusion of plasma ions deep into the material (eg, nitriding, boriding, doping) and subsequent rapid quenching. The result is a fine-grained or quasi-amorphous layer with unique properties and improved performance (micro-hardness, wear resistance, corrosion and erosion characteristics). As a result, the processing is achieved by: - A significant increase in the time operating in conditions of dry friction; - The possibility of replacing expensive alloyed steel cheaper with the desired physical and chemical properties; - Healing of various defects in the surface layer (micro-cracks, scratches, microvoids); - High adhesion of the modified layer and the core substrate. Actually there are no problems of adhesion, as modified layer is not coated.
