TRANSFER OF INNOVATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

SURFACE TREATMENT OF ARTICLES IN ELECTROLYTIC PLASMA (STEP)

Purpose of the development: Development of multifunctional (wear-, heat-, corrosion-resistant, electric-insulating, decorative) coatings with chemical and phase composition, structure and properties adjusted within a wide range. The STEP technology is perspective for application in the following industries: mechanical engineering (parts of pumps and compressors, foundry molds, mandrels), engine-building (elements of cylinder-piston group), construction (decorative panels), tool-making (gauges and laps), aerospace (nozzles, turbine blades, plating, components of devices), electrotechnical and electronic (antidiffusion layers of heating systems, dielectric layers of heat paths of chips, absorbers of heat sinks, anodes of electrolytic capacitors), oil and gas (plungers and face seals of pumps, gates of dampers, catalysts), textile (spindles), medical (needle holders, bioceramics for implants), food-processing industry (porous filters and membranes, parts of grinders- disintegrators).

Recommended application field: Mechanical Engineering.

Advantages over analogues: * Ecological purity, safety, simple control of the process * Special surface preparation is not required * Possibility of obtaining coatings of significant thickness (up to 300-400 microns) without deep chilling of the electrolyte * Long life expectancy and high hardness (up to 2000-2500 kg/мм2) of the coatings A new approach to development of coatings with unique properties.

The development stage readiness: Pre-production model is made

Description of the development:
()
During treatment energy of electrical microdischarges is used in an electrolyte on the surface of treated articles. As opposed to anodizing the STEP process is carried out at significantly higher voltages (up to 1000 V); it employs mainly alternating or impulse currents, weak-alkaline electrolytes. Main equipment consists of a power supply source, electrolyte and swilling baths. STEP ensures unique properties of the coatings due to high temperatures in discharge channels with thermal destruction of water and formation of atomic and ionized oxygen and, as a consequent, formation of hyperthermal phases (for example, for aluminium alloys - hard corundum). Patent of the Russian Federation № 1759041 has been obtained on the device for surface treatment in electrolytic plasma.
