TRANSFER OF INNOVATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

NEW MODE AND A VARIETY OF "METAL-TO-METAL" COUPLING DEVICES FOR DEMOUNTABLE PIPELINE CONNECTIONS

Purpose of the development: Pressurizing of sectional connections is in different industries of national economy.

Recommended application field: Various kinds of industrial and consumer equipment and appliances. Utilization of the proposed technology seems to be most effective in coupling units, shut-off and relief valves of liquid and gas transportation and storage systems operating under high pressure, with temperatures ranging from cryogenic level up to hundreds degree Celsius, in deep vacuum mains as well as in systems prohibiting usage of non-metal seals. Some particular areas that can be mentioned are as follows: * Fuel and ecologically adverse fluid pipelines * Pharmacological production, first of all considering a possibility of using the technology for high temperature sterilization of pipelines without dismantling them. * Chemical production * Automotive and aerospace industries, bearing in mind smaller linear dimensions and lower weight of the proposed devices

Advantages over analogues: * Dependable tightness retained under considerable temperature drops; * Capability to withstand variable mechanical impacts on the pipeline ensured by total relieving of the sealing device from loads; * Possibility to refuse from generally required leak-proof pattern of attaching flanges to pipeline ends; minimization of a number of air-tight welded (soldered) connections in pipeline systems; * Reliable sealing retained under high pressure conditions provided among other factors by the device self-sealing effect in response to pressure in the pipeline; * Possibility of being employed in corrosive media; * Multiple repeated use capability allowing hundreds of assemble/disassemble cycles without changing the device; * Minor efforts required to put the joint into sealed position that allows to employ speed-clamps and bayonet locks as fixtures; * No-problem adaptability to existing pipeline joints or valves without adjusting their standard components, including direct substitution of rubber O-rings by the proposed devices; * Smaller size and weight of the proposed seal unit in comparison with similar purpose devices used in special applications; * Mass-produce capability with no special requirements in relation to manufacturing technology and precision of seal components; * Low production and maintenance costs.

Description of the development:
()
Inventions that are presented here relate to demountable connections of any pipelines (pic.1) and can be employed in various industrial and consumer engineering applications. They can also be applied in stop valves (pic.2) of whatever design. For said applications particular significance of the proposed mode and a variety of implementing devices is determined by nearly unique combination of such features as: * dependable functioning under considerable alternating loads; * no need of fixing flanges to pipelines with leak-proof quality thus short-cutting crucial welding or soldering operations; * simultaneous meeting of stringent requirements of working under extreme conditions of high pressure, deep vacuum, major temperature drops and in corrosive media. The proposed technique is based upon an special configuration of the sealing element that allows to make good use of elasticity of the material, of which this element is made, so that complete sealing can be reached whereas possibility of plastic deformations be essentially diminished, thus ensuring multiple repeated utilization of the device. The sealing element is made of alloy steel (as a rule, a corrosion-resistant steel). It is installed in the pipeline between the pipe ends, and sealing takes place along the inner edges of the pipe inlets. In the same pattern the sealing element can be employed to fit valves with no adjustment of their components needed. The proposed sealing mode and implementing devices are protected by Russian patent "A method and a device for pressurization of demountable pipe joints (variants) and a sealing element" №2145687 in accordance with application № 98121779 (priority - 3 December 1998). International patent pending - PCT/RU №99/00465 of 2 December 1999 (priority - 3 December 1998).
