ARTICLES AND DEVICES BASED ON NATURAL 2A-TYPE DIAMONDS

Purpose of the development: The following articles and devices are produced on base of specially selected natural diamonds with reduced content of nitrogen (2a type): a) Diamond slices for electronics and optics. b) Non-cooled UV and UV/IR radiation detectors. The are promising for use as high-sensibility detectors in optoelectronic instruments for a broad range of applications (systems for ozone layer monitoring, geophysical control and cartography equipment, special technique, scientific instruments, emergency systems for combustion early detection, flame detector and others). c) Alpha-beta-gamma spectrometers for simultaneous measurement of energy spectrums of these radiation types. It is possible to create multidetector systems with maximum spatial resolution 10-2 mm, elements of portable systems for X-ray element analysis.

Recommended application field: Instrument-Making

Advantages over analogues: With technical parameters comparable, the products are much cheaper than their foreign analogues, specifically, those produced by Element Six (Holland). Products featuring high consumer properties, with cost lower. They have good market potential.

The development stage readiness: Introduced in production

Description of the development:
()
2a-type diamonds are characterized by especial transparency and color clarity. They are treated by standard techniques (laser and mechanical cutting, drilling and cutting out holes, profiles, precision crystal-lattice orientation of diamond crystals, surfaces metallization, multilayer compositions depositions). Slices for electronics and optics. Double-sided plane parallel slices with precision polished surface. They are fabricated with natural edge configuration, with mechanical or laser treatment of faces also with preset sizes and parameters. Deviation from surface flatness depends on the window size (for small-size windows less than l/5). Microroughness less than 40 nm. They can be fabricated with detailed documented parameters (around 30), including geometrical, electrophysical and optical characteristics, with or without specific crystallographic orientation, installed in modules with singlelayer or multilayer coatings. Non-cooled UV and UV/IR radiation detectors. They have working temperature +20 +200 °C and a practically unlimited service life. They feature high photo sensibility (0.03 - 0.8 A/W). Broad forbidden zone (5.5 eV) prevents emergence of carries thermogeneration at elevated temperatures. Thermal shift effect under action of laser radiation is absent. As posed to analogues, for example, photo detectors on base of InSb or HgCdTe structures, optoelectronic devices based on diamond detectors require no built-in cooling systems (nitrogen-, helium-based cryosystems, thermoelements) and optical protective lenses (outside single- and double- element systems). Alpha-beta-gamma spectrometers. The operation principle of the spectrometer is based on using different responses of natural diamond to radiation type. When measuring a / b / g sensibility is 0.15/0.3/50 Bq/kg. Minimal time of continuous operation in measuring mode is 10 hours. They feature high stability to gamma radiation and action of chemically aggressive media (they can be used close to a reactor hot zone). They enable to perform spectrometry immediately by C12 - recoil nuclei. The techniques of the articles fabrication and diamonds grading are protected by RF patent # 2167435 of 20.05.2001 and # 2165804 of 21.05.2001.
