TRANSFER OF INNOVATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

SYNTHETIC CARBON MATERIALS "SIBUNIT"

Purpose of the development: The "SIBUNIT"-based catalyst are characterized by long operation life and high activity in the processes of hydrogenation, hydropurification, hydrodechlorination. "SIBUNIT" exhibits its prominent properties when used as a support of acid-based, sulfide and promoted metal catalysts. As a sorbent, "SIBUNIT" may be used in medicine, pharmaceutics, in productions of fats, sugar, beer, wine, non-ferrous metals and for purification of industrial and municipal waste waters. The molded "SIBUNIT" support permits one to solve many problems of petrochemical processes such as demetalization and hydrocracking of oil fractions or hydropurification of hydrocarbon feedstock.

Recommended application field: Different industries of national economy.

Technical characteristic: Since 1993 Sibunit is manufactured as powders (particles 5ё200 mm in size), spherical granules (0.2ё4 mm in diameter), and extrudates (cylinders, trefoils, quadrifoils). Sibunit based catalysts produced under the Institute license are supplied to a number of Russian enterprises such as "OMSK KAUCHUK" (Omsk), "KAUSTIK" (Sterlitamak), "Tolyatty ZAVOD SK" (Tolyatty) to be used for rosin disproportionation, "KROPOTKIN Chemical Plant" for furfurol decarbonylation. Since 1996, Sibunit is supplied to such international companies as Du Pont (USA) and General Electric Company for phosgene synthesis processes. Since 1997, Sibunit-based sorbents VNIITU-1 and VNIITU-2 are produced for medicine.

Advantages over analogues: Carbon materials are utilized to produce adsorbents and a variety of catalysts serving large-scale chemical and petrochemical processes. The application of activated carbons in industry is restricted by their microporous structure whereas the majority of catalytic processes requires mesoporous catalyst structures. In some processes, activated carbons are rarely used due to high concentrations of mineral admixtures and sulfur. Unfortunately, the known activated carbons exhibit low strength and oxidation stability, which considerably decrease the catalyst operation life. "SIBUNIT" Advantages Mesoporous structure; High mechanical strength; Chemical and thermal stability; Low concentration of admixtures.

The development stage readiness: Introduced in production

Description of the development:
()
"SIBUNIT" is a new family of porous carbon-carbon composite materials combining advantages of graphite (chemical stability and electrical conductivity) and activated carbons (extended surface area of pores and high adsorption capacity). These composites are characterized by high volume of mesopores and narrow controlled distribution of pores by size (some brands differ by high content of a 5-20 nm pores, or have bimodal meso-macropore texture). Synthetic carbon materials are protected by US Patent #4978649 (1990). There are registered trademarks for СИБУНИТ No 195575 (2000) and SIBUNIT No 195418 (2000).
