Advantages over analogues: Existing methods have disadvantages in that the level produced by the difference of potentials (0.5-2.5 V) with negative polarity at the top lance throughout the melt does not allow additional warm bath of molten metal to a level trebuyuemogo for effective recovery of manganese from the slag melt in the metal during its refining Sulphur. The task was the development of resource-and energy-saving and creating conditions for effective recovery of manganese from the slag into the metal and to improve the process of refining molten metal by sulfur.

The development stage readiness: Ready for application

Technical and economic effect: The technology has passed industrial tests and has been implemented at the OJSC "Dnepropetrovsk Metallurgical Plant. of Petrovsky." During its use it was found that the manganese content in the metal, resulting from the use of this technology, rose to 0.14 percent. With this savings on to manganese ferroalloys was approximately 26 hryvnia per ton of metal melted. In addition, saving the liquid cast iron, increases the output quality steel, increased safety for the converter.

Description of the development:

The oxygen-converter process used for refining iron into steel without consuming fuel, pig iron by blowing in the converter is technically pure oxygen at the top. Existing methods do not allow to adequately refine the metal from undesirable impurities. The presence of manganese pig iron increases its hardness and durability, while the presence of sulfur reduces its mechanical properties, contributes to a crack in the casting. The harmful effects of sulfur is neutralized by introducing an additional manganese, which forms a stable compound with sulfur.
