INORGANIC COMPOSITE SORBENT FOR THE IMMOBILIZATION OF HEAVY METALS IN SOILS / SEDIMENTS / SLUDGE, REMOVAL OF HEAVY METALS AND PHOSPHATE FROM THE WATER

Purpose of the development: Waste water treatment and agriculture. The sorbent can be used as the material of the filter bed to remove heavy metals and phosphates from waste water or as an agent (1-5% wt.) For the immobilization of heavy metals in polluted soil or as a stabilizing mixture (5% wt.) Injected into contaminated sediments or sludge prior to disposal.

Recommended application field: Wastewater treatment system.

Advantages over analogues: Sorbent is made from pure natural materials. Another advantage - high efficiency and long-term, confirmed by numerous tests in various European countries, versatility, simplicity and purity of the production.

The development stage readiness: tested in laboratory condition

Technical and economic effect: Any sorbents, which implement the mechanism of cation exchange (ion exchange), such as natural zeolite or aluminosilicate (raw material) with a low sorption capacity are well known and widely used in practice. Such materials tend to have selective selectivity to separate ions or certain of their classes. After reaching the equilibrium state of sorption capacity very quickly lost. Most natural materials, which implement the principle of ion exchange, physical adsorption or chemisorption may be used only as a fine powder (coal or coal ash, bentonite, clay, natural zeolites).

Description of the development:
()
In this case, the term "adsorbent" is used for any member of the class of materials that have the ability to immobilize the metal cations and phosphate by means of absorption, adsorption or chemisorption, as well as any other mechanism. The sorbent is able to change the pH of the system, act as a buffer at the interface between the solid phase - contaminated liquid deposit of heavy metal cations in the bulk water. The result of these changes - the precipitation of hydroxyl groups of heavy metals, the ratio of which depends on the physico-chemical forces that exist on the rough surface of the porous adsorbent.
