The technology of contact butt resistant welding by pulsating melting opens fundamentally new possibilities for obtaining high-stength joints owing to high-concentrated heating and optimal conditions for melt distribution on the burn-off surface. When pulsating melting is used, current magnitude in the welding circuit is 1,8...2,5 times more as compared with uninterrupted melting with the same value of installed power of the power supply. The current magnitude is kept constant during the whole melting time. In addition, flashing allowance is 1,5...2,5 times reduced. Contact butt resistant welding by pulsating melting makes it possible to obtain a high-guality joint by means of heating time change, depending on set power. this enables to chose an optimal thermal cycle for welding rails from steels with various chemical compositions and properties.
