The device operation is based on light scattering by aerosol particles , which are transported via air currents focused beam of a laser diode ( 680 nm , 30 mW). Each particle scatters light depending on its size , its scattered light is collected by the concave mirror and directed to a photodiode , whose signal is then processed and analyzed using a personal computer . These measurements can be presented as the total number of particles, their concentration and size distribution . Counter is used to study the characteristics of the welding fumes in the Institute of Physical Chemistry of Environmental Protection and the Ministry of Education and Human Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine , Odessa.
