METHOD DEVELOPMENT TO REDUCE RADIATION DURING RADIOACTIVE WASTE MANAGEMENT AND SPENT NUCLEAR FUEL

Purpose of the development: The developed methods are designed to reduce radiation exposure to radioactive waste (RW) nuclear power plant personnel and the environment, as well as for use during the introduction of new technologies for the processing of radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel (SNF), transportation and technological operations with him at Ukrainian NPPs .

Recommended application field: Nuclear energy and radiation safety.

Advantages over analogues: These designs use modern nuclear databases JEF-2.2 (1998.) And JEF-3.1. (2008.) (Joint Evaluated File), as well as widely known and recognized by the scientific community software packages PENELOPE_08, GEANT_08, MCNP_06.

The development stage readiness: Finishing off is required

Description of the development:
()
The design and construction of dry spent fuel storage facility (SFSF, 380 ventilated storage containers (WSS)) Zaporizhzhya authors have analyzed the radiation safety of the repository. On methods developed by the authors is used to load the WSS spent fuel assemblies (SFA) and the placement of water and wastewater on-site storage. Proposed and justified by a number of technical solutions to reduce the cost of construction of protective structures and reduce radiation doses to personnel and the environment. Based on the results of the calculations are designed and built the gateway system and radiation shielding wall storage site SFSF. Also holds the safety analysis of operating sets of processing of solid and liquid waste, constructed on the South-Ukrainian NPP. The results of studies made grounds for changing the original design and technological solutions aimed at improving the safety systems in general and reduction of radiation exposure as a wait staff and the environment. Now the complex processing of solid radioactive waste (KPTRO) SUNPP is under completion and the complex processing of liquid radioactive waste (KPZHRO) - at the detailed design stage.
