MONITORING OF ROADS USING NON-DESTRUCTIVE METHODS OF REMOTE SENSING


Purpose of the development: Georadar diagnosis of pavement of flexible type to determine the thickness of the structural layers, search and identify subsurface defects in monolithic coating layers and layers of reinforced base, humidity assess the underlying soil subgrade

Recommended application field: Design, construction and maintenance of roads and engineering structures; geological engineering; Industrial and civil construction.

Technical characteristic: Hardware measuring system "PAVEMENT"-1 - appliance for subsurface probing of pavement that realizes the subsurface radar and is used for non-destructive diagnostics of pavement layers of flexible type.

Advantages over analogues: 1. Improvement of equipment and operational adaptation to the current problems of the road sector in Ukraine is possible only with the development of modern domestic georadar equipment. Communication between production workers, scientists and developers of equipment will enable to improve operational georadar equipment with the development of mathematical tools and the needs of industry. 2. Price of domestic georadar equipment is significantly lower than that of foreign producers. 3 Schematic possibility of resolution in determining the thickness of the structural layers of the pavement of 0.5 cm (0.005 m). 4. Analogues of antenna unit which implements the principle of registration of cross-polarization components of the signal does not exist. 5 According to the results it is obtained design patents of Ukraine: - way of full frequency-independent decoupling between the transmitting and receiving antenna modules (patent Ukraine № UA 14,933); - Pat. 81296 Ukraine (51) IPC E01C 23/00, G01R 29/08 (2006.01) method for detecting and identifying locations of including subsurface cracks in asphalt pavement. 6. The software on the interpretation of the results georadar sensing, based on the results of scientific research in areas not destructive control pavements and propagation of electromagnetic waves in a plane-layered media was developed. The software is the result of collaboration of leading research teams in Ukraine: HNADU, IRE NASU, Kharkiv National University. 7 The decisive advantage of the project is to create new diagnostic equipment that meets the latest international standards in the field of flaw detection and thickness measurement of pavements.

The development stage readiness: Tested experimental exploitation order

Technical and economic effect: The effectiveness and social implications of scientific and technological development is to develop prototype hardware for measuring complex georadar studies pavements and appropriate software. Introduction georadar equipment will quickly determine the condition of pavement structural layers in the survey, as well as in construction and major repairs that will reasonably p ozrahovuvaty strength of the pavement, to develop constructive and technological measures to ensure the bearing capacity of the pavement for life. This will contribute to solving the problems of designing and building reliable road pavements of flexible type, providing normative transportation operational state highways, reducing costs for pavements inspection, repair and maintenance of roads, rational planning on volumes of work and the optimal allocation of financial and material resources.

Description of the development:

- improvement of a prototype hardware of measuring complex for the georadar studies pavements; - improvement of existing and development of new algorithms for primary processing and data visualization of georadar sensing; - improvement of the software for use in devices and equipment nondestructive testing pavement, - testing of a prototype hardware for measuring complex on the pavements models; - conduct field surveys of pavements on public roads to test the recovery and accuracy of the results of georadar sensing.
