SCANNING GEORADAR


Purpose of the development: 1. Identification: - Underground tunnels at depths of 30-40 m; aquifers to 30 m; - Leakage areas of public facilities ("perched" flooding, old sewers, pipelines), cavities, caves, tunnels, oil spills zones (lenses). 2. Evaluation of moisture distribution in depth (dams, dykes - the degree of water content). 3. Mapping: - Landslide zones (borders, stability); water-saturated layers; power sand dunes to correct seismic data. 4. Identification of subsurface objects (e.g., minutes).

Recommended application field: Diagnosis of the soil below the surface in cities, industrial centers and individual buildings (estimate humidity of soil layers). Assessment of the state of the soil structure of bulk structures of dams, dikes, dams (estimated degree of humidity, compacted soil and tunnels). Diagnosis of subsurface structures and assessment of soil landslide mapping zones of their distribution. Mapping subsurface zones spread liquid petroleum products (lenses) as a result of leakage from storage sites in industrial zones.

Technical characteristic: Type probing signal: radiopulse combined signal with a step change in its carrier frequency. The power which is radiated - 1 watt. The maximum operating frequency range - 30-900 MHz (with removable antennas). The maximum depth of the sounding - 70..80 m (depending on the type of soil and its humidity). The maximum resolution of the depth - 10 ... 15 cm (depending on the humidity of the soil). Depression emission and reception of signals from the upper hemisphere - over 40dB. The pace of scanning (or the signal accumulation time): minimum - 128mks; maximum - unlimited. Maximum depth accuracy objects -15 cm. The minimum diameter of objects - 5-10 cm. The ability to detect dielectric pipelines. Power consumption - 6 watts. Weight - 12 Kg.

Advantages over analogues: The main advantage of specialized GPR is possible to obtain information about the physical properties of the environment and the individual sub-surface inhomogeneities. This feature is implemented through the use of phase signals directly to the structure by means of radar data, and also based on a new mathematical signal-processing algorithms. The use of polarization selection of objects by changing the polarization of the emission and reception.

The development stage readiness: Tested experimental exploitation order

In the development of the principle of stepwise changes the carrier frequency of the signal in the frequency range 140-260 MHz. Apply heterodyne architecture for simultaneous detection of radar reflections by mixing the received signal with the reference and the transition to a fixed intermediate frequency. The system has a separate frequency synthesizer for transmission and reception. The reference signal is obtained by mixing with the frequency synthesizer reference signal. The high value of the intermediate frequency (1 MHz) allows to suppress the noise inherent in homodyne architecture. Reflected signals after mixing with the quadrature phase detector reference signal are converted into quadrature I and Q signals are narrow-band. These signals are then digitized with precision ADCs with high dynamic range. The narrow bandwidth of the receiver increases the signal / noise ratio at the receiver. In GPR used new magnetic slot antenna, which provides the ability to switch the polarization of the emission and reception with an electronic switch.
