TRANSFER OF INNOVATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

COMPOSITE MATERIAL OF PERMANENT MOLDS FOR CASTING OF CAST IRON PARTS


Purpose of the development: In order to improve the quality of products and to eliminate surface whitening centrifugal hollow casting, as well as reducing the thermal conductivity of the mold proposed composite chill.

Recommended application field: Foundry parts for diesel engines and internal combustion engines in the engineering and shipbuilding industries.

Advantages over analogues: In addition to a general increase in the hardness of castings and improve the structure of the metal, process control technology of centrifugal casting of structure allows to eliminate the shortcomings that are inherent centrifugal casting in permanent metal molds.

Chill body comprises a layer of the heat insulating material, a permanent layer of carbides, which are in contact with the liquid metal. The basic material of the die is 4-6 times lower thermal conductivity as compared with iron. Porous composite has an even lower thermal conductivity. For formation of the heat insulating layer of composite material proposed a powder metallurgy technique which provides minimal machining allowances. Carbide layer, which has a high melting point (about 3000 ° C), receives heat from the casting flow and limit physical and chemical interaction with the liquid form of the metal. This provides a high surface quality of the casting and the high shape stability and allows to use a porous material which provides the desired thermal conductivity form.
