PARTIALLY GRAPHITIZED CAST IRON FOR BRAKE PADS
Purpose of the development:
Ukrainian Institute has developed a technology to produce partially graphitic cast iron for the production of tram and locomotive brake pads.
Recommended application field:
Engineering production.
Advantages over analogues:
Brake pads of iron, whose structure has cementite (5 ... 15%), graphite, iron phosphides and perlite are characterized by high wear resistance (no damage to the rolling surface of the wheels) and sufficient plating performance. Durability of these pads in 1.5 ... 3 times higher compared with wear pads made of cast iron containing phosphorus as a main alloying element.
The development stage readiness:
Introduced in production
Description of the development:
() Brake pads of partially graphitizing cast iron can be produced without their thermal processing (by strict observance of the composition on the iron of silicon, manganese, phosphorus, chromium and carbon) and by casting the white pad (or half) of unalloyed iron followed by heat treatment. First Embodiment technology can be implemented in melting in electric iron, the second - as in electric furnaces and cupola furnaces.
Partially graphitized cast iron brake pads as a material in the manufacture of embedded tram and locomotive brake pads. They were manufactured several million pieces. Shunting locomotives increased durability pad 2 ... 3 times, on the main - 1.5 ... 2 times.
