TRANSFER OF INNOVATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT FOR LARGE PROFILED SINGLE CRYSTALS OF REFRACTORY METALS PRODUCTION


Purpose of the development: The technology and equipment plasma-induction zone melting to manufacture monocrystalline ingots of tungsten and molybdenum (sizes 20h140h170 mm or more).

Recommended application field: Single crystals of refractory metals are high-tech products, they are used in electronics, engineering. Most of the programs in the space nuclear power, aerospace critically depend on breakthroughs in the field of high-temperature materials. Oriented single crystals of tungsten and molybdenum, and especially shaped, can be ideal for wide workpiece rolled refractory metals.

Advantages over analogues: The uniqueness of this method lies in the fact that it practically does not exist any restriction, both in size and the profile of the cross section (circle, square, plate, pipe, etc.).

Single crystals of the refractory metals, including tungsten and molybdenum, on an industrial scale is carried out in the form of rods with a diameter of 30 mm. Recently there were problems requiring large single crystals: the target diameter of at least 60 mm for deposition in electronics, anodes for powerful X-ray tubes, mirrors for industrial lasers, pumps and containers for growing large single crystals of oxides and salts, as well as large-format monocrystalline hire. The emergence of new high-technology increases the interest to obtain larger crystals than those that are commercially available. The problem of growing large single crystals of refractory metals for years seemed insoluble because of their high melting point. Only the method of plasma-induction growing single crystals allowed the band to fundamentally solve this problem. The combination of plasma and induction heating allows to keep the bath of molten metal in an electromagnetic field without contact with the cooled copper, which determined the prospects of this method of growing large single crystals of refractory metals, as the increase in the size of single crystals of refractory metals has a decisive influence on the expansion of their use in the art. The process of growing single crystals of refractory metals is environmentally friendly. Developer makes both setup for growing single crystals of refractory metals and single crystals themselves.
