Purpose of the development: The new material - crystals of ZnSe, doped with chromium ions, which are the active laser medium of mid-infrared.

Recommended application field: Designed crystals considered promising for use in areas such as infrared spectroscopy, gas analysis, medicine, communications, and others. Such materials solve the problem of creating new efficient light sources for use in medical diagnostics.

Technical characteristic: The concentration of Cr2 +, refer to the minus 3 degrees: 5 10 * 17 degree ... 3 10 * 19 degrees. The absorption coefficient, in cm minus 1 degree (h = 1.78 pm): 1 ... 100. Size mm: diameter / width: 10-50; thickness: 5-20. Precision manufacturing, mm: for overall dimensions: ± 0,05; thickness: ± 0.05. Cracks, inclusions, visible in polarized light: not allowed. Deviation from parallelism, arcsec: <= 10. Flatness:

Advantages over analogues: Lasers based on chalcogenides are compact and reliable, have a high radiation power in a narrow band, and the possibility of adjustment.

Get active laser medium mid-IR based heavily doped crystals of ZnSe: Cr2 +. Generation of radiation at the laser pumping (YAP: Er, Tm) is carried out in the range of 2 ... 3 mm. Achieved values of the differential efficiency corresponds to the best published data, while the pulse mode (76%) - surpass them.
