Purpose of the development: Kyropoulos method allows to grow large crystals of sapphire any crystallographic orientation with an extremely low dislocation density, less than 1000 cm -2 degrees.

Recommended application field: Cultivation of large single crystals of sapphire.

Advantages over analogues: Kyropoulos method has several advantages over other methods of melt: - Method Kyropoulos as the Czochralski method, relates to methods of free cultivation when growing crystal is not limited to the walls of the crucible; - It is a highly effective method to obtain three-dimensional crystals of optical quality (category 1 and 2), weighing several dozen kilograms; - Due to the high vacuum in the growth chamber is effective evaporation of impurities from the melt-grown crystals thereby have high chemical purity of 99.996%.

Technical and economic effect: Kyropoulos method is economically advantageous because the effective shielding possible zones of growth that reduces heat losses to a minimum.

Single crystals grown directly in the melt by gradually lowering the temperature at small temperature gradients, which makes it possible to grow crystals with low dislocation density. Advantage Kyropoulos method is its technical simplicity and reliability. Kyropoulos method allows to grow large single crystals of sapphire weighing up to 80 kg and more. Single-crystal growth in malogradientnom temperature field to avoid possible formation of single crystals of various kinds of inclusions, blocks, low angle boundaries and increased the concentration of dislocations. Ukraine has developed and commercially available growth setup with weight sensors that allow you to grow crystals weighing 25-35 kg, with a diameter up to 200 mm, as well as crystals up to 85 kg, with a diameter up to 300 mm.
