CRYSTAL GROWTH FROM SOLUTION


Purpose of the development: The Ukrainian Institute developed the technology and installation for the rapid growth of large crystals of the KDP group aperture up to 500 mm by means of recycling the solvent at a rate of up to 10 mm / day.

Recommended application field: Nonlinear optical crystals of the KDP group used for spatial and temporal modulation of the laser radiation on the basis of electro-optic effect (modulators, optical valves, vents and other.); frequency conversion of laser radiation on the basis of non-linear optical effect, producing a powerful coherent radiation in the ultraviolet region; doublers and frequency tripler powerful laser radiation in plants for laser fusion.

Technical characteristic: - Maximum size of crystals in mm: 400x400x800; - The maximum size of the optical elements, mm: 370x370x10; - Absorption coefficient cm - 1 (h = 10,6 mm) <= 0.03; - The effect of the conversion of energy from the primary to the second harmonic,%: 20; - Laser damage threshold volume (h = 10,6 m, t = 3 ns), J / cm2 at least 30.

Advantages over analogues: The developed technology allows to reduce the duration of the crystal growth from two years to six months.

Single crystals of group KDP (KDP, ADP, DKDP, KDP / ADP) is grown from a saturated aqueous solutions by recycling solvent and reduce the temperature of the solution. In the method of reducing the temperature of the solution required for the growth of crystals of the supersaturation at a rate of up to 15 mm / day is created by slow, especially for a given program, reduce the temperature. This technology is used when creating new functional materials, in particular for the cultivation of nonlinear optical single crystals KDP with incorporated nanoparticles (TiO2, SiO2, ZrO2, Al2O3, Au et al.), Scintillation monocrystals KDP, doped with organic phosphors and ions of rare earth metals Ce3 +, Sm3 +, Gd3 +, Yb3 + for registration of mixed n / y fields. Some new scintillation materials based on mixed crystals KDP / ADP and doped crystals ADP: Tl +.
