SLIM BROADBAND RADIO ABSORBING COATINGS FOR PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION OF MICROWAVE


Purpose of the development: Proposed development of radar absorbing coatings based on metal films of nanometer thickness with an artificially created islands of electrically conductive structure (meta-material).

Recommended application field: Research organizations and industrial enterprises involved in the development and production of new systems of protection against electromagnetic radiation.

Advantages over analogues: An advantage of the coatings is their small thickness and a broad band absorption of electromagnetic radiation (2-5 times greater than today's analog at the same thickness).

Description of the development:

Absorbing and reflecting properties of the coatings are related to the influence of size effects on their resistive properties. There was obtained 80-90% absorption of the energy of the incident electromagnetic radiation in the 8 mm and 3 cm wavelengths coating comprising only one layer of metal with a high conductivity, a given structure islets and a thickness of about 10 nm. It is assumed that the absorption efficiency is increased for coatings which contain several layers of metal and after the optimization of the shape and size of islets. Similar results are expected for other ranges of electromagnetic waves by a weak frequency dependence of the observed effect. It is assumed that the total thickness of the protective coating not exceed 1-2 mm. For the manufacture of coatings applied techniques of high-vacuum deposition. These methods provide an acceptable reproducibility of coating properties and provide the minimum cost of materials due to the high degree of control of the process parameters.
