TRANSFER OF INNOVATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

PRODUCTION OF FUEL ETHANOL FROM SWEET SORGHUM

Purpose of the development: Ukrainian Institute developed the technology and new varieties of sweet sorghum for bioethanol production.

Recommended application field: Biofuel venture.

Advantages over analogues: High flexibility and productivity of sweet sorghum; yield of ethanol from sugar sorghum as compared to corn and sugar beet 1.5-2 times higher; respectively, for the production of bioethanol / biobutanol necessary land area of less than 1.5-2 times; lower processing costs of land; cheaper delivery of raw materials to the plant; Sorghum residues can be pressed into briquettes for energy self-sufficient enterprise.

The development stage readiness: Tested experimental exploitation order

Description of the development:
()
Now ethanol plant in the world is usually made from grain (barley, wheat), sugar beet and corn. But the cost of grain is usually high, but, for example, waste sugar beet - even deficit. The problem is the fact that these plants are food crops. This causes unnecessary competition: the crop can be processed into food or fuel. Ukrainian Institute offers to avoid this problem by using new varieties of sweet sorghum. Sorghum is not a food raw material, but is well suited for the production of bioethanol. Sweet sorghum is a plant with a high yield (130 t / ha) and sugar content (25-35%). The work plan resembles a biofuel venture sugar mill, where biomass is transformed into syrup, from which the fuel. In 2015, it was already established research and industrial machinery and produced 400 tons of bioethanol fuel and 3,000 tons of solid biofuels with an area of ??150 hectares of sweet sorghum. To start full production as well as improving the technology of the institution needed an investment of 11 million. Dollars. The payback period is four years, profitability - 150%.
