LOW-TEMPERATURE DILATOMETRIC COMPLEX


Purpose of the development: Ukrainian scientists have created a unique low temperature dilatometric complex (NPC), the use of which allows you to record the thermal expansion of the substances and materials on the scale of the interatomic distances in conditions of low and very low temperatures (in the range of 1.2 K to 300 K). As the temperature interval of accuracy and this complex has not currently analogues.

Recommended application field: NDK allows to solve scientific and technical problems, which cover a wide range of issues - from a purely fundamental problems and manifestations of the quantum laws in the observed properties of the substance applied to the behavior problems of new nanostructured materials at low and ultralow temperatures. CIT has found its practical application in the aerospace and cryogenics. Using it in a minimum operating temperature were determined physical and mechanical properties of new construction carbon fiber reinforced plastics used for fairings aircraft. Identified characteristics of thermal expansion and the non-standard behavior of these materials is very important to prevent premature failure of a number of designs. The complex is used in the development of highly selective molecular filters. He helped to identify a significant impact of oxygen-containing groups and defects on the sorption properties of graphene oxide, and had found a way to increase the sorption capacity of the nanostructure by 3-6 times.

Advantages over analogues: Сomplex design provides extremely high (about 10 to the minus 9 degrees cm) measurement sensitivity, precision thermometry, vibration resistance. During this development it has been used a number of original design finds that ensure the functioning of the device at extremely low temperatures. Because of this, it is a unique experimental subject.

NDA created and perfected over the years. NIR Heart consists of two highly sensitive low-temperature dilatometer one of which is designed to measure the thermal expansion of solid samples, and the other - for the study of thermal expansion of the so-called cryocrystals that do not exist in normal conditions and at very low temperatures condense from the vapor phase. Other components of the complex is a low-temperature vacuum adsorption analyzer (with a sensitivity of 10 to the minus 7 degrees mol) to determine the qualitative and quantitative composition of gases adsorbed in the investigated nanostructured materials, as well as measuring equipment and automation system for the operation of the equipment. Unique features of this complex have been recognized domestic and foreign scientists. It was used in the performance of many international projects in cooperation with the University of Umea (Sweden), the Australian Science and Technology Centre (Australia), the Institute of Physics of carbon structures of Zaragoza (Kingdom of Spain), the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research, Polish Academy of Sciences (Poland), and also in joint projects with institutions of NAS of Ukraine. In the future, based on the NDC planned to create a center of public testing of low-temperature thermal expansion materials. The complex is open for joint experiments for physics research at low and ultralow temperatures. The developer welcomes proposals from scholars in Ukraine and other countries and is ready to discuss appropriate physical problems.
