Purpose of the development: Ukrainian Institute developed a system of passive protection of high-speed passenger train at emergency collisions intended for railways with the track gauge of which is different from Europe - 1,520 mm.

Recommended application field: Engineering Enterprises for creating new designs of passenger railway rolling stock passive safety systems.

Advantages over analogues: The system is unique in the fact that in Ukraine and in the countries that use the track with a width of 1520 mm, there aren't analogues of such protection.

According to the concept developed by the front and rear structures of railway vehicles must be equipped with anti podyomnymi and sliding automatic couplers, as well as effective interchangeable energy absorbing devices. A device for absorbing impact energy is intended for installation at the end portions of the frame of the locomotive body. The apparatus consists of two contiguous box-shaped cell blocks. In a collision of its elements deform and absorb impact energy, leaving the drivers, passengers and locomotive itself intact or substantially reducing the possible consequences. Development took place crash test at the testing center TUV SUD Rail GmbH (Germany) and confirmed its effectiveness by getting agreement between the experimental data and the results of calculations. Confirmation of effectiveness of the system has allowed scientists to develop and start production of an entirely new design of modular cab with reinforced front wall crumple zone and a safety zone for the survival and the evacuation of the locomotive crew. The developed system and the driver's cab used to create electric locomotive EP20.
