TRANSFER OF INNOVATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

TECHNOLOGY FOR PRODUCTION OF TITANIUM COMPONENTS BY POWDER METALLURGY


Purpose of the development: Production of titanium components by powder metallurgy.

Recommended application field: Enterprises aviation, automotive, chemical and petroleum industries. Production of medical products.

Technical characteristic: - alloy - Ti-6Al-4V; - density - 99%; - yield point - 840-860 MPa; - tensile strength - 940-990 MPa; - elongation - 10-12.5%; - fatigue limit - 500 MPa.

Advantages over analogues: - hydrogenated titanium powder is half the price; - production of the starting materials (titanium hydride) at the Zaporozhye Titanium-Magnesium Plant; - a simple set of technological operations; - getting products specified form with the required characteristics.

Technical and economic effect: Significant cost reduction of manufacturing titanium products while maintaining the unique characteristics of titanium alloys.

Description of the development:

In cars, planes, trains and any other transportation as the main construction material used steel. It is convenient in handling the substance, but it has significant drawbacks: high weight, low resistance to the corrosive effects of the atmosphere, etc. One of the options for its replacement can be titanium, which is the main problem - the high price - decided to Russian scientists. Ukrainian Institute has developed a technology for producing titanium alloy parts and a simple and cheap way. It includes only pressing and vacuum sintering the powder of hydrogen titanium compounds, the titanium powder has replaced traditional powder hydrogenated titanium (titanium hydride). This allows to make machine components with desired strength and thus simplifies processing. After all the details are already the basic shape and only require a small improvement. The estimated cost of 1 kg of titanium parts made by this technology, in the conditions of mass industrial production will be 2-5 times lower than the cost of parts produced by traditional method. Other technologies can achieve the relevant characteristics of titanium products at much more sophisticated technological approach and high production costs. Already established experimental batches of products with specified characteristics. Adaptation technologies for specific products of various purpose (definition range of parts for the manufacture of the proposed method, the modification of molds design for the manufacture of complex geometrical shapes, etc.).
