RESOURCE-SAVING METHODS FOR FACE-HARDENING OF METAL PRODUCTS

Purpose of the development: The developed science-based methods and technology for face-hardening of steel and cast-iron products provide the formation of metastable phase-structure modifications. The activation of the latent internal resources of the material ensures the realization of the effect of the surface layer structure self-organization and self-hardening immediately during the process of tests and operation of metal products, thus resource saving and equipment productivity improvement is provided.

Recommended application field: The results of the development can be widely applied in the metallurgical industry, mechanical engineering, agricultural engineering, and at the enterprises specialized in repair and renovation.

Advantages over analogues: The ЧХ14Г6Т cast-iron developed in State Higher Education Institution “PSTU” after optimal modes of heat treatment is distinct in 1.5-2 times increased wear-resistance in comparison with the Fe-V-Cr-C and Fe-Cr-Ni-C based irons (containing up to 10 % of V and 9- 10 % of Ni) of the Japanese production. The cost of the developed surfacing powder material is lower (by 1700-1800 USD per ton) in comparison with the known material produced in Germany and Russia. The implementation of the development ensures resource saving due to saving the alloying steels scarce in Ukraine and surfacing materials, expensive alloying components (nickel, molybdenum, vanadium, niobium, tungsten etc.), allows improving the combination of physicomechanical and operational properties of metal products, their reliability and durability. Industrial application of the developed heat treatment technologies enables substantial decrease of the environmental pressure through the elimination of the harmful influence of metallic nickel found in expensive complex-doped alloys and surfacing materials. Development status: conducted tests of pilot batches of quick wearing change components of metallurgical and agricultural equipment. Tests of the batch of shot blast machine 20ГЛ steel blades and corn crusher steel 25 hammers indicated 1.5-2 times increased wear resistance and 1.7-3 times increased durability of the components (compared with commercially manufactured components).

The development stage readiness: Tested experimental exploitation order

Technical and economic effect: The new technologies of metal product surface hardening are recommended for application at metallurgical enterprises of Ukraine. The application of the new composition of flux-cored wire for electric-arc surfacing of equipment components at a metallurgical enterprise gives the estimated economic effect of more than 900,000 UAH.

Description of the development:
()
The developed phase-structural surface modifications are distinguished with and advantageous in their metastability, the rate of which is regulated with the alloying process, and methods and modes for various types of processing. This allows controlling the kinetics of structural-phase transformations during the process of product tests and operations; under the optimal structure and volume of the mentioned transformations the higher level of properties including wear-resistance is achieved compared with conventional materials. The new developed composition of the economically alloyed wear-resistant cast iron and the put forward technology allow regulating the austenite metastability rate, increasing the wear-resistance and durability of metal products under intensive impact-abrasive wear combined with heating-up. The development is covered by Patents of Ukraine No. 93842 and No. 95559. The created physico-mathematical model of the alloying element distribution within the layers of the faced economically alloyed Fe-Cr-Mn metal, with the help of facing technology parameters allows forming the metastable phase-structural modifications and compositions, controlling the chemical and phase composition, structure formation and metal product properties.
