Purpose of the development: The S 81 “Cyclone” automatic street light control system (ASLCS “Cyclone”) is a hardware and software suite designed for centralized twenty-four-hour street light facility management in a city or a large enterprise, acquisition of diagnostic information on the current hardware operation and state, energy consumption control, and prevention of emergency situations.

Recommended application field: The energy-saving ASLCS “Cyclone” has been introduced in several districts of Mariupol and is recommended for wide application in the public utility sector and at multiprofile industrial enterprises.

Technical characteristic: The application for inventions and utility models for the system elements are made. The ASLCS “Cyclone” meets all modern requirements in the field of electrical safety and energy efficiency, comply with the DSTU IEC 60870-2-2:2005 and DSTU IEC 60970-4:2005, certificated by UkrSERPO. The reliability of the system is achieved through numerous stress tests of all suite units and complies with the European electromagnetic radiation level standards and requirements to the consumed electric power. In comparison with world analogues, the system is able to operate under extreme conditions at a temperature from -35 °C to +75 °C and 90-400 V voltage changes, as well as under open-phase operating conditions of the network.

The development stage readiness: Introduced in production

Technical and economic effect: The application efficiency of the ASLCS “Cyclone” is achieved through lowering the electric power consumption, decreasing the operation time of light sources, stepless power control, decreasing the unit cost of electrical energy, using area electricity tariffs, decreasing the operation costs, increasing the operational life of lamps and reducing their replacement frequency. The various configuration options of the systems are easily integrated into the infrastructure of industrial enterprises and public utility organizations. The system can have integrated both individual electronic ballasts and group dimming devices (for controlled reduction of the luminance level), which allows decreasing the electrical power consumption by 40-60 %. The payback of the automatic control system is provided after three years of operation.

The ASLCS “Cyclone” belongs to the intelligent devices of the sixth wave of innovation. The automatic control system suite is designed as a set of independent units able to operate within an integrated system with the selectable required connection type. The ASLCS “Cyclone” ensures: 1) automatic powering up and down the street lamps according to the light schedule for a specific lighting unit or by the operator command; 2) data acquiring and displaying; 3) acquiring and transferring the data from the energy accounting meters; 4) automatic diagnostics of the street light electrical substation and alarming the central dispatcher board in case of emergency; 5) saving the system operation and operation activity logs. The ASLCS “Cyclone” software is the SACADA expert system operating on a continuous twenty-four-hour basis under the MS Windows XP or Linux operating systems.
