Purpose of the development: It is intended to create optical processors using different frequency bands of radiation, including in the perspective of the terahertz range.

Recommended application field: Fabrication of photonic crystals, which are designed to change the parameters of electromagnetic radiation - the intensity, spectral composition, the direction of propagation.

Advantages over analogues: - a wide range of frequencies of electromagnetic radiation; - easy management structure; - small value of the control field; - the use of a cylindrical capillary waveguide to create a focused one-dimensional periodic structures.

The periodic structure acicular magnetic clusters in a magnetic fluid, formed in a cylindrical capillary acts as a diffraction grating or a photonic crystal for a wide range of electromagnetic waves, including visible. Changing the period of the structure or part thereof is performed by changing the magnitude and gradient of the external magnetic field.
