PHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF OIL IN NATURE AND INDUSTRIAL WATERS

Purpose of the development: Ukrainian University has developed a method for determining low concentrations of oil in natural and industrial waters photometric method.

Recommended application field: Condition monitoring of drinking water and natural water, industrial effluents.

Technical characteristic: - the analytical detection limit concentration of oil in water according to method 1 is 0.003 mg / L; - according to the method 2 - of a solution containing 0.2 mg of oil per liter of water, the absorbance in a cell with a working layer 10 thickness was 0.103 mm. If we assume that the limit of detection of the optical density is 0.001, a possible limit of detection of oil concentration is 0.002 mg.

Advantages over analogues: - the high sensitivity of the method - the analytical detection limit concentration of oil in water of 0.003 mg / L; - possible fresh and sea water analysis.

The development stage readiness: Ready for application

Technical and economic effect: The use of available equipment - photoelectric colorimeters, such as KFK-2MP which can measure the absorbance in the near ultraviolet region of the spectrum.

Description of the development:
()
Methods of determining the oil is extracted from oil liquid organic extractant with a high concentration of the sample, followed by measurement of the optical density of the filtrate photometric method. It was found that the oil is much better absorbs light in the near ultraviolet region of the spectrum (315 nm), available for modern Photocolorimeters. Method 1: A portion of water that is contaminated with oil is introduced into a volumetric flask with a glass stopper 100 ml of benzene was added 1.5 ml. Stoppered and stirred repeatedly inverting flask. After the bundle selected medical syringe with a long needle extract. Pour new benzene extraction portion and the operation is repeated 3-4 times. The volume of the extract was adjusted to 10 ml benzene. Measurement of absorbance was performed on the resulting solution photocolorimeter at a wavelength of 315 nm. It is found that the optical density in the range of low concentrations depends linearly on the concentration of oil. Method 2. 1 liter of contaminated water passed through the filter paper with the yellow tape, which is located in a glass funnel. The filter was dried and placed in a plastic injection syringe, 10 ml, which is filled with 3 ml benzene. Then the extract is pushed out of the syringe. This operation is performed at least 2 times. Repeat the rinsing operation a new portion of benzene. Both portions of the extract placed in a 10 ml pycnometer and dilute to the mark with benzene. Photometric resulting solution at a wavelength of 315 nm.
