WATER CHANNELS PROTECTION FROM SEDIMENT


Purpose of the development: Ukrainian University developed sandblasting design with the least possible consumption of wash water, which remove the greatest possible quantity of sediment from the channel.

Recommended application field: Energy, land reclamation and other channels in the mountain and foothill areas.

Advantages over analogues: Construction of gravel is economical in construction and operation, and also have simple geometric shapes and technology. The washings costs in all these plants do not exceed 3-5% of the flow in the channel. In this case the washing flow is removed 95-98% of sediment moving objects.

To protect the channel from the bottom and partly by suspended sediment offered new designs sandblasting. For straight sections of the channels offered sandblasting straight type, which are based on a bottom obliquely situated shoulder and lateral obstacle. There are two variants of sandblasting: for medium-size sediment structure with lateral obstacle placed bottom of the shoulder; For larger deposits - with lateral obstacle set before the bottom ledge to ledge variable height. For curved sections - sandblasting with curved bottom ledge of variable height, shoulder portion of the bend in front of the hole and wash him. The operating principle of the proposed design is to create a secondary flows, which in some way organize the movement of sediment in the stream and contribute to their removal from the energy of the water flow only. The main active element sandblasting for secondary sediment is located obliquely bottom shelf, for which there is a strong helical flow which captures particles of sediment from the stream and transports them to the flushing port. Lateral obstacle, having small size increases the hydrodynamic pressure at the beginning of the course, contributes to its acceleration in the direction of the flushing holes and more successful removal of sediment. The design sandblasting for large sediment barrier is placed on the approach to the ledge, and is useful in the circulation flow to the shoulder, driving drifts closer to flushing port. Needless flow arising behind the ledge, too, has a helical character and enhanced reduction of the height of the ledge along the course. The design of the curved sandblasting too excited for circulating on the way to the ledge at the expense of the curvilinear channel. This circulation is enhanced bottom turns and facilitates the movement of sediment flushing port. The flow behind the ledge is also activated difference.
