Purpose of the development: The Ukrainian University has developed biotechnology based on natural antimicrobial agents - bacteriophages, which will allow for a long time to preserve the freshness of fruits and vegetables.

Recommended application field: Manufacturers of plant agro products and ornamental crops, greenhouses, network supermarkets, vegetable stores, vertically integrated producers.

Advantages over analogues: Foreign analogues of the development exist (AGRIPHAGE (USA) - a mixture of bacteriophages for combating bacterioses of tomatoes and peppers, BIOLYSE (Scotland) - a preparation for control of soft rot of potatoes), however they have a narrow specificity, high cost and are absent in the Ukrainian market. But the developer offers a platform for creating individual drugs based on bacteriophages for the needs of customers, whose uniqueness lies in the high effectiveness against pathogens that circulate in the territory of Ukraine, the recommendations for use in organic crop production, the ability to monitor the effectiveness of the drug, low cost and economic efficiency.

Technical and economic effect: The use of the developed biotechnology will allow: to reduce economic losses, increase the yield of plants, switch to the production of organic food products, to bring agricultural activities in line with international quality standards.

One of the important challenges of modern farming is how to preserve the freshness of fruits and vegetables for a long time. Corruption, loss of quality and presentation of vegetables, fruits, berries, herbs are due to the presence of an unfavorable bacterial flora. Infection with bacteria can occur at various stages of obtaining products: on the field, during transportation, storage and sale. The absence of bacterial control causes such economic losses for producers of agricultural products as loss of yields of valuable agricultural crops (from 10 to 90% decrease in yield), loss of commercial value, reduction in the shelf life of products, loss of consumer confidence in producers and sellers. Domestic scientists suggest combating these bacteria biotechnology on the basis of bacteriophages. These are viruses that destroy a certain strain of bacteria. In this case, unlike chemical substances, they do not act on other types of bacteria. Bacteriophages work so selectively that such drugs must be produced literally on site. If a Ukrainian farmer buys such a drug of foreign origin, he will simply waste his money. After all, his plants live strains of bacteria, to which foreign bacteriophages are not trained. The developer offers the introduction of an individual biotechnological solution for the needs of the customer: identification of the problem (pathogen), development of the drug - phage cocktail, drug testing at the customer, biotechnological support of bacterial control. Duration - up to 6 months, cost from 5000 USD depending on the volumes.
