Purpose of the development: The Ukrainian University has developed and proposes to introduce the technology of cultivation and reproduction of Australian tropical cancers (Cherax quadricarinatus) in the conditions of the South of Ukraine. The development is designed to expand the capabilities of domestic commodity aquaculture and create conditions for the release of new delicacies.

Recommended application field: Cultivation of commodity crayfish for the production of new delicacy products.

Technical characteristic: As a result of the application of the developed technology, tropical Australian cancers were obtained with an average mass of 110 g (some specimens reached 187 g) during the one-year growth cycle.

Advantages over analogues: The advantage of the development is the use of ponds in the south of Ukraine, which have a high natural bioproduction potential, which makes it possible to grow tropical Australian crayfish by extensive technology without the use of feeding.

The technology provides for the cultivation and reproduction of Australian tropical cancers under artificial conditions of closed water supply systems in the autumn-winter period up to a mass of 25-40 g, with further growth to the marketable weight (110 g) in the ponds of the south of Ukraine. To do this, it is necessary to ensure adequate conditions for their maintenance in the winter, using closed water systems or other systems that can provide this kind of warm water for reproduction and growth of younger age groups. Ponds of the south of Ukraine with their large natural fodder base can be used for extensive cultivation of Australian crayfish in monoculture.
