Purpose of the development: To measure the reverberation time in rooms.

Recommended application field: In the construction of premises where it is important to know the rate of attenuation.

Technical characteristic: The structure includes an electronic unit "Acoustics-1.1", a PC-compatible computer with special software, a low-frequency amplifier, loudspeakers and a microphone. As a test noise signal, pink noise is used in the frequency range of 70 Hz ... 4000 Hz or a shot from the starting pistol.

Advantages over analogues: High-precision construction of the envelope of the input signal and the construction of an "approximating direct reverberation" according to the criterion of minimum RMS.

The reverberation time is one of the essential acoustic parameters of various building structures and rooms. The classical method of estimating its magnitude is based on plotting the decay of the sound level after the termination of the external action. If the graph uses a logarithmic scale of sound levels and a linear scale along the time axis, then the exponential attenuation of the sound is converted into a falling straight line. The reverberation time is the time to reduce the sound level by 60 dB. In accordance with GOST 24146-89, reverberation time measurements are performed in one-third octave frequency bands with average geometric frequencies and band boundaries according to GOST 17168-82 (16 one-third octave bands with average geometric frequencies from 125 to 4000 Hz).
