METER FOR THE COHESION STRENGTH OF BITUMEN BANNERS


Purpose of the development: The developed device is designed to determine the index of cohesion, by means of which it is possible to predict the shear stability and the ruggedness of asphalt concrete.

Recommended application field: Road construction.

Advantages over analogues: The main advantages of the development favorably distinguish it from the French impact method of the pendulum and the coherence meter of Dupont (USA), in which a low-adhesive glass and a bulky press are used as a solid plane. The developed cohesiometer allows measuring the cohesion of bitumens of various types, bituminous polymer binders, bitumens with various impurities.

One of the main indicators of the quality of the asphalt-concrete coating is its evenness. To prevent the formation of plastic deformations, it is necessary to have information about the strength properties of bituminous binders. For this, a method for determining cohesion has been developed. Using the cohesion index, it is possible to anticipate and direct the shear stability and coliform stability of asphalt concrete. To determine the cohesion, a cohesion meter was developed that operates in a single-plane bias scheme at a fixed temperature and shear rate, which most closely correspond to the working conditions of the asphalt concrete in the coating. For testing, a substrate with a flexible polymer tape is used, which ensures a reliable adhesive bond between it and the test binder, as well as the alignment of tapes that stretch in opposite directions.
