Purpose of the development: Control of the status of aquatic ecosystems in the conditions of long-term radionuclide pollution by the enterprises of the nuclear fuel cycle and regulatory bodies in the field of nuclear industry and environmental protection. Ensuring the safety of the nuclear energy complex and radiation protection of the environment.

Advantages over analogues: The developed methods and criteria adequately reflect the level of radiation exposure and diagnose early disorders in the most sensitive components of biotic groups of aquatic ecosystems that are exposed to radionuclide pollution.

The use of cytogenetic parameters (frequency of aberrant cells) of embryonic tissues of freshwater molluscs and root meristems of higher aquatic plants, as well as hematological parameters (frequency of deformations and picnosis of cores of peripheral blood red blood cells) of freshwater fish for the determination of biologically significant levels of contamination of components of aquatic ecosystems by main dose-forming radionuclides. Custom-developed methodology for controlling the quality of the water environment exposed to the nuclear fuel cycle enterprises.
