INNOVATIVE SCHEME OF CONTROL OF MICROBIOLOGICAL POLLUTION AND BIO RESISTANCE OF AVIATION FUEL AND MATERIALS


Purpose of the development: The development is designed to identify microbiological damage to aviation fuels and to implement preemptive measures to eliminate microbiological contamination of the fuel system, contamination of filters and malfunction of fuel control equipment, deterioration of the physico-chemical and operational characteristics of the fuel.

Recommended application field: The method can be implemented in the services of airports, testing laboratories, at petroleum product plants, at tank farms.

Advantages over analogues: Compared with the known methods of detecting microbiological damage to fuels, the developed colorimetric method allows you to quickly detect the presence or absence of microbiological contamination in the operating conditions of an airfield.

The purity of fuels depends on the presence of mechanical impurities, moisture and microbiological phase. The developed colorimetric method for detecting the microbiological phase is based on the fact that as a result of the vital activity of microorganisms-oil destructors, compounds containing primary and secondary amino groups, amino acids, amines, enzymes, etc. accumulate in fuels. The cells of microorganisms are composed of protein parts, which include the above compounds. Ninhydrin was chosen as an indicator of the amino group and amino acids. When ninhydrin interacts with compounds containing the indicated amino groups, the fuel acquires a blue-violet color. The intensity of the color indicates the scale of biodegradation of the fuel.
