Purpose of the development: The development can be applied to stop bleeding from vessels of different diameters, both in the wounds of wartime or emergency situations, and during planned surgical interventions.

Advantages over analogues: The use of chitosan dressing allows you to reduce the time to stop massive bleeding 2 times. The volume of blood loss when using a lyophilized sponge is reduced by 2.9 times, dressings with chitosan - 10 times. Other advantages: ease of production, low cost components, ease of use, no analogues in Ukraine.

The essence of the development lies in the formation of a multi-layer gauze bandage, which contains in its composition the active substance - chitosan. It is used in the form of a gel with a concentration of the active substance from 0.5% to 5% and a molecular weight of from 100 to 900 kDa. A multi-layer dressing is formed with a thickness of 0.5 to 5 cm, applying the chitosan gel to the substrate, in particular gauze, cellulose, collagen, followed by drying, or using the sol-gel method, freeze-gelated. After adding pressure to the multilayer bandage while pressing it to the wound for at least five minutes, it is fixed, performing tight bandaging with it, or continuing to press the multilayer bandage continuously until the bleeding stops. The inclusion of chitosan in various ratios and forms allows you to significantly increase the effectiveness of arterial hemorrhage arrest from large vessels (femoral and brachial arteries) compared with traditional medical devices registered in Ukraine. Additionally, the developed method has an antibacterial effect, which reduces the frequency of purulent infectious complications.
