Purpose of the development: Ukrainian University has developed technology for the use of logging waste and the manufacture of new wood composite material from them.

Recommended application field: Wood industry, construction.

Advantages over analogues: The well-known structural material - OSB (Oriented Strand Board) plates, which is characterized by a multi-operational and energy-intensive manufacturing process, has a density and mechanical characteristics (static bending strength and elastic modulus) less than, respectively, 25 and 77% of the proposed new wood composite material from crushed branches.

The development stage readiness: Pre-production model is made

Technical and economic effect: New wood-composite material can replace OSB in construction, and the use of cutting area waste - the branches that are being burned today will improve the ecological condition of the cutting areas.

A significant part of the logging waste is occupied by branches that are not used in the manufacture of plate materials and fuel due to the high content of bark. Ukrainian University has developed and offers to introduce the technology of rational use of branches as a wood component for wood-panel materials by the method of their conditioning, which allows to preserve the natural strength of the fibers. Raw materials for the manufacture of material are branches of a poplar tree with a diameter of 13 to 32 mm, which, as a result of crushing, form weaving with elements 6-10 mm thick and, after resinification with phenol-formaldehyde resin, become the basis of a three-layer pressed material with an average density of 640-800 kg / m3. The tensile strength during static bending is 30-37.5 MPa, the modulus of elasticity is 7000-10000 MPa.
