TRANSFER OF INNOVATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

ESTIMATION OF MATERIAL DEGRADATION BY ULTRASOUND TOMOGRAPH

Purpose of the development: - evaluation of the distribution of the mechanical characteristics of the material in the volume of the product; - elastic (modulus of elasticity, shear modulus); - strength (strength); - structural (grain size); - technological (hardness); - parameters of the stress-strain state (stress tensor, tensor invariants); - control of the material in the volume of the product in the process of its operational aging (degradation, fatigue); - identification of low-contrast defects and evaluation of their characteristics; - control of adhesion of protective coatings; - identification of local zones of stress concentration of the material in the volume of the product.

Recommended application field: Nuclear energy, rocket and shipbuilding, diagnostics of water, heat and gas pipelines.

Advantages over analogues: Additionally, material is probed by different types of ultrasonic waves, registration (including contactless methods) of a transmission signal backscattered from the structure of the signal material, as well as an acoustic emission signal (passive acoustic emission tomography). The portability of the scanner allows you to use it in remote places and in difficult conditions.

The development stage readiness: Ready for application

Description of the development:
()
Ultrasonic flaw detection is a reliable and one of the most common methods for diagnosing materials today. The tomograph allows you to experimentally determine the spatial distribution of the propagation and attenuation rates of longitudinal, transverse and surface ultrasonic waves and, based on it, calculate the spatial distribution of the physical and mechanical properties of the material: elastic modules, strength characteristics, stiffness, grain size, intergranular corrosion, and parameters of a non-uniform stress-strain state (component of the stress tensor, its invariants).
