Advantages over analogues: In Ukraine, there are no similar developments. A single administration of a gene-therapeutic drug provides a long-term normoglycemic effect compared with daily injections of exogenous insulin, which is prescribed for life-long patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus type I. Production of the drug is cheaper compared to similar developments in foreign countries, which are based on the use of viruses for the delivery of therapeutic genes, and the use of the drug is safer because it is based on the Non-Virus Gene Transfer System.

The development stage readiness: tested in laboratory condition

The drug obtained on the basis of complexes of polycations and recombinant DNA containing the human preproinsulin gene. The drug is prepared ex tempore before introduction into the body. A pilot experiment on gene therapy of type I diabetes was conducted, positive results of treatment were obtained in long-term studies.
