Purpose of the development: The project will create an optical infrared tomograph for the diagnosis of breast tumors in women without the use of X-rays.

Recommended application field: Consumers of the project will be hospitals, clinics and other medical and educational institutions.

Advantages over analogues: Currently, x-ray radiation is used to diagnose breast diseases. Such tomographic installations are expensive, and the maintenance personnel of such installations are irradiated. For the proposed tomograph, new-type photodetectors and irradiators were developed using infrared radiation, which is safe for diagnosing the mammary gland in women. The hardware is uncomplicated. Such inexpensive equipment can be distributed in the district and family polyclinics, especially in rural areas.

Currently undergoing X-ray tomography (mammography), which is harmful for the determination of tumors. The solution of the problem is possible for the diagnosis of breast disease using optical methods of research. Ukrainian University has developed an optical infrared tomograph consisting of an object irradiator, detectors and electrically related signal processing and object display restoration systems, which is characterized in that the detectors are made of pn-pn-type photodetectors with sign inversion of electromotive force , and the irradiator is a widescreen infrared light source and a cylindrical lens that turns a light beam into a line scanned over the surface of a biological object.
