MICROPOSITIONER FEATURING OBJECT STEP MOTION FOR A DIGITAL LABORATORY MICROSCOPE

Purpose of the development: Laboratory examinations of different objects, including blood films, to detect pathology.

Recommended application field: Меdicine

Technical characteristic: Key features of the model are defined by the position sensors parametes. X-, Y- axis repeatability is 10 mm, travel range 50x70 mm.Travel speed is not a constant value and is optimized in accordance with the program. Accessible values are 10 mm/s and more. The fundamental advantages of the micropositioner are high accuracy and speed combined with simplicity of electric drive mechanics, as well as absence of rigid requirements to the fabrication tachnique.

The development stage readiness: tested in laboratory condition

Description of the development:
()
The apparatus is based on the original idea of step motion of an object. The idea is implemented in a travelling mechanism, satisfyinq the condition L/c >>T, in which T is a specific time interval of force impact at the object motion; L is specific object size; c is the acoustic speed in the travelling object mtdium. Besides, the high positioning accuracy is provided by the system of adaptive feedback, generating a command for the electric drive in accordance with the position sensors and target data. The control algorithm takes info consideration the information and deceleration, variation of motion resistance, target distance, mechanical gap value. The microprocessor system reads out the digital date of the position sensors and transfers them to the computer. The computer program accom plishes the motion control algorithm. Computation results are transferred from the computer to the microprocessing block where PDM are formed - commands for the platform tltctric drive. The positioning method is implemented in a pilot model of computer-controlled microscope stage. The working laboratory model of a motorized optical microscope was awarded a gold medal of the 34th International Salon of Inventions (Geneva, Switzerland, 2006). Gurrently, worcs are underway to improve accuracy of the motorized control system for a microscope stage up to 500 nm.
