POLYSTYRLE COMPOSITE SCINTILLATORS
Purpose of the development:
A laboratory technology has been developed for the production of polystyrene composite film scintillators with built-in inorganic nanoparticles for the detection of x-rays, gamma rays and neutrons, radiation monitoring, radiation spectrometry, etc.
Recommended application field:
Monitoring of radioactive pollution of the environment; visualization in medicine, control over the movement of radioactive materials; nuclear safety in industry.
The development stage readiness:
Pre-production model is made
Description of the development:
() Composite scintillation materials based on a polymer matrix with embedded nanoparticles have a speed of ~ 2 ns and 5–20 times greater detection efficiency of low-energy gamma rays in comparison with polystyrene scintillators. The cost of their manufacture in comparison with crystalline detectors is significantly less.
