TRANSFER OF INNOVATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

CONTAINERS AND MATERIALS FOR THE HANDLING OF LOW AND MEDIUM RADIOACTIVE WASTE

Purpose of the development: The development concerns the creation of the production of containers for transportation and storage, as well as modular storage facilities for long-term storage of low and medium activity radioactive wastes, including in order to rehabilitate contaminated areas.

Recommended application field: The results can be implemented at nuclear power plants, radioactive waste storage facilities, industrial enterprises.

Advantages over analogues: Increased radiation resistance of containers; the term of operation is increased up to 10 times; strength indicators are increased; low mass of products with an equivalent volume, which reduces the risk of damage under dynamic loads during transportation and storage. There are no analogues to the developed containers and modular storage elements on the world market.

The development stage readiness: Pre-production model is made

Description of the development:
()
In contrast to existing technologies for storing radioactive waste, the proposed project is based on fundamentally new materials and manufacturing techniques for containers for storing and transporting low- and medium-level waste. The attenuation coefficient of radiation of developed materials is 1.4-1.7 times higher than that of steel. According to the IAEA test results, the predicted lifetime without overload is up to 300 years. According to the results of the operation of the products in conditions of solar radiation, high humidity, industrial gas contamination, in the air and in sea water for 30 years, no traces of corrosion and degradation were detected.
