DECORATIVE LEAD-FREE SILICATE ENAMELS FOR ARTISTIC JEWELRY
Purpose of the development:
Compositions and technologies have been developed for applying a wide range of low-melting enamels for copper and silver (gold), which do not contain toxic lead compounds and have high decorative characteristics.
Recommended application field:
The jewelry industry.
Advantages over analogues:
In Ukraine, artistic enamels are not produced, so domestic manufacturers are forced to use expensive foreign materials. In addition, the different chemical composition of such enamels entails different application temperatures, which greatly complicates the technology for producing the finished product.
The market of jewelry and artistic enamels is represented by Russian, French and American manufacturers. All known compositions of jewelry and artistic enamels contain expensive components and toxic compounds of lead, which make it possible to obtain low-melting enamels with high gloss values. However, lead is already banned in Denmark, Austria and Switzerland, and restrictions on its use have been introduced in Netherlands. This determines the relevance of the proposed development of environmentally friendly enamels, which in their decorative indicators can compete with the already known lead enamels.
The development stage readiness:
Ready for application
Technical and economic effect:
Using the developed enamel will ensure the production of high-quality painted glass coatings for jewelry with good chemical resistance and certain color characteristics, which will allow you to reproduce a particular color.
Description of the development:
() In the market of jewelry and decorative products, goods decorated with multi-colored silicate enamels are in great demand. The transition to lead-free enamels is especially relevant due to the high toxicity of lead due to its sublimation during cooking of enamel and the corresponding ban on its use in production.
The proposed development concerns the manufacture of decorative lead-free silicate enamels for artistic jewelry.
The following raw materials are used to obtain enamel frits: silica sand, boric acid, sodium and potassium nitrate, alumina, barium carbonate, titanium dioxide, molybdenum, zinc, chromium, cobalt and copper oxides. Enamel is cooked at a temperature of 1250 ° C for 60 minutes. Fritting is carried out in a dry way, pouring glass melt onto iron rolls.
Preparations before applying enamel are thoroughly cleaned with abrasive material and degreased with citric acid. Apply enamel slips on copper blanks with a brush. Enamel coatings are dried in an oven at a temperature of about 80 ° C for 15-20 minutes. After drying, enamel coatings are burned in a muffle furnace at a temperature of 800 ° C for 3 minutes.
