FIRE EXTINGUISHING POWDER OF SPECIAL PURPOSE "KM-1"

Purpose of the development: KM-1 fire extinguishing powder can be used to extinguish fires of light metals (magnesium, aluminum and their alloys) and class D fires when extinguishing fire extinguishers and fire engines.

Recommended application field: Fire protection of objects that use magnesium and its alloys.

Advantages over analogues: - the ability to extinguish special substances, for example, a burning magnesium alloy; - non-toxic to humans, animals and the environment; - low cost; - ease of storage and use.

The development stage readiness: The working documentation is developed

Description of the development:
()
The basic principle of achieving a positive result when extinguishing metal-containing substances is the creation of a protective layer of a coating of a burning center with the help of a fire extinguishing powder, which prevents the access of atmospheric oxygen to the combustion zone and prevents combustion from spreading. Such a coating should be sufficiently dense, have the required thickness of the powder layer over the entire surface of the combustion cell, which is achieved with a specific specific powder consumption (kg / sq.m). KS-1 powder has good fluidity and high fire extinguishing efficiency. It is supplied to the burning site with compressed air or nitrogen. Nitrogen is widely used in explosive technological processes to create an inert environment in apparatuses and transport pipelines. As a fire extinguishing agent, it is used to extinguish sodium, potassium, beryllium and calcium. But for extinguishing metals whose compounds have nitrides with explosive properties, it cannot be used. These metals include magnesium, aluminum, lithium, zirconium and some others. To extinguish these metals, argon is used. The metal that burns is covered with an even layer of powder from special soothing nozzles. A layer of powder on the surface of the burning metal forms a dense crust. After the expiration date, KM-1 is subject to regeneration or disposal. The regeneration process consists in restoring the properties and characteristics of the powder, for which it is sent to the manufacturer. KM-1 can be disposed of as mixtures in the winter for sprinkling pavement paths.
