ANTI-FOULING IMPURITIES FOR SHIPBORNE PAINTS BASED ON CATIONIC BIOCIDES


Purpose of the development: The Ukrainian Institute has synthesized new anti-fouling agents for protective coatings based on hydrophobic cationic biocides.

Recommended application field: Protection of underwater metal structures from biofouling.

Advantages over analogues: The advantages of the developed compounds are a wide range of biological activity against bacteria, fungi, biofilms and macrobial growth organisms, moderate ecotoxicity and low cost.

The set of cationic biocides includes liquid compounds that are soluble in the finished paint compositions, and solid compounds that can be incorporated into the paint in the form of pigments at the stage of its manufacture. Cationic biocides are used as modifying additives to the industrial paint XC-413, which is intended for corrosion protection of underwater metal structures. Full-scale tests of metal substrates coated with modified KhS-413 paint in fresh water (Dnieper River) were carried out for 7 months. High resistance to biofouling of protective coatings, which contained 5% biocidal additives, was established. In particular, the biomass on the surface of the modified coatings was 90 times smaller compared to the control substrates.
