TRANSFER OF INNOVATIONAL TECHNOLOGIES

ACTIVE POLYMERIC MATERIAL FOR MEDICAL ANTISEPTIC BANDAGES WITH BLOOD-REPAIRING EFFECT


Purpose of the development: The synthesized materials are multifunctional and allow solving the following applied problems: - in emergency conditions, apply effective antiseptic medical dressings to untreated open wounds, which will stop bleeding, disinfect the wound surface and allow time for transporting the wounded to places of qualified medical care without the threat of secondary infection; - in emergency conditions to carry out rapid disinfection of water; - protect the respiratory system from certain types of chemical weapons and microorganisms present in the air.

Recommended application field: Military and public medicine, water treatment, air purification.

Advantages over analogues: It is proved that when the developed dressing is applied to the wound, blood coagulation is accelerated, the threat of primary infection for a certain time (more than 24 hours) is neutralized, the likelihood of secondary infection is significantly reduced. In addition, these dressings have a reparative (wound healing) effect, effective when used to treat infected wounds.

The technology is based on the idea of ??chemical immobilization of "active chlorine" and "active oxygen" on an inert polymer carrier. "Active chlorine (oxygen)" preparations, such as sodium hypochlorite, chloramines, hydrogen peroxide, superacids and many others, are extremely effective disinfectants due to their powerful oxidizing properties, therefore they are widely used for treating industrial and drinking water, premises, pipelines, as well as in medicine as antiseptic solutions. However, the use of these substances is limited by a number of disadvantages, the main of which is their existence almost exclusively in the form of dilute solutions, which are very unstable and often contain side impurities. The Ukrainian University has developed the technology of "grafting" functional groups - donors of "active chlorine (oxygen)" onto a polymeric carrier in various forms (granular, staple, needle-punched fabric). The synthesized materials in contact with a medium containing oxidizable impurities or substances of a protein structure (microorganisms and their metabolites) generate a disinfectant in this medium that neutralizes such contaminants. Thus, these materials can be used to purify water, air, and most importantly - to treat open wounds as a component of an antiseptic medical dressing.
